As a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and musician, I'm passionate about early childhood music education. Music not only enhances our children's development, it also makes life fun! I love being alongside families as parents and children bond, explore the universal language of music, interact with peers, and have fun singing, dancing, laughing, and playing instruments in our weekly and one-time classes.
About Me
While teaching Kindermusik classes years ago as a certified Kindermusik instructor, I was inspired to develop an early childhood music program that incorporates a variety of teaching approaches including hands on experiences with real instruments, use of time-tested classical melodies and folk music styles from around the world, the Kodaly method of music notation, and songs and activities inspired by the unique and precious children in every class. I developed the Music in Me curriculum using awareness of the developmental milestones, challenges and successes of our little ones and their families. I've been teaching the Music in Me curriculum in partnership with Holland area programs including the Holland Symphony Orchestra, Avalon School of the Arts, and Park Township Recreation since 2017.
Education
I received my degree in Piano from Miami University, and taught piano to children at the Toedtman School of Music in Cincinnati, OH. I then shifted my focus to medical education, and received nursing degrees at Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland. My experience as a NICU nurse and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Holland Hospital compliments my love of working with children in music classes.
